Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968

JUST SAY'n: Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Perhaps the best way for me to put Dr. King's impact upon the lives of Blacks and the entire nation is to recall what life was like in the segregated south and throughout the United States prior to some of the landmark decisions wrought by the Civil Rights Movement of which, Dr. King was a key leader.

A Different Perspective of Low Birth Weight Babies in Black Women in the USA!

JUST SAY'n: The disparities of low birth weight babies for Black women and White women in the United States is well documented. Research by the Centers for Disease Control  (pg 76) reveals that Black Women give birth to low birth weight babies at a rate of 16.18% compared to 6.97% by their White counterparts.

White House Goes Forward with Planned Screening of "Selma".

David Oyewolo stars as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Paramount's 'Selma.' (Video still/YouTube)
JUST SAY'n: "TheGrio" is reporting that the White House is hosting a special viewing of "Selma" one day after the movie "was snubbed by the Oscars after receiving only nominations for best picture and song while director Ava DuVernay and lead actor David Oyelowo were ignored in their categories." The White House says that the timing of the two events was coincidental and that a screening was previously planned to commemorate the observance of Dr. Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement over the holiday weekend.

I say, deal with people from a position of personal strength and dignity. It is clear that the power brokers in certain sectors of society only deal with Black Americans from stereotypical vantage points and do all they can to marginalize the significance of Black achievement. Once you understand that, then there is no need to be hurt or offended when they "do what they do"...just do "what you do" and negotiate with them with the expectation of presenting yourself with honor and taking nothing less than what you're worth...JUST SAY'n!

NRA. and Conservatives..."Ahh...on 2nd Thought!

JUST SAY'n:  Remember the NRA supported fast talking young Black guy talking about arming Afro Americans who might be in gun fights in their OWN neighborhoods to the applause of conservatives who got to continue to promote that Black on Black crime is the main issue of American Blacks?  All that changed recently when young Black men started talking about aiming high powered weapons elsewhere.

Let me say that I do not own firearms and this is not a blog in support of carrying firearms. It is, however, an honest appraisal of how attitudes have shifted regarding "Right to Carry" laws once the New Black Panthers decided to openly carry firearms to defend THEIR communities....JUST SAY'n!

Mike Huckabee Equates Black Marriage and Entrepreneurship with "Pimpin"

Fox News host Mike Huckabee on Jan. 5, 2014 [Fox News]
JUST SAY'n According to RAW STORY,  Former Arkansas Governer Mike Huckabee thinks that Rapper Jay Z is "pimpin" mega pop star Beyonce. "Beyonce is incredibly talented – gifted, in fact. She has an exceptional set of pipes and can actually sing,” Huckabee writes. “She is a terrific dancer – without the explicit moves best left for the privacy of her bedroom. Jay-Z is a very shrewd businessman, but I wonder: Does it occur to him that he is arguably crossing the line from husband to pimp by exploiting his wife as a sex object?” Clearly this is an effort on Huckabee's part to get his name "Out There" with the upcoming 2016 Presidential Election primaries on the horizon.  This follows the heals of another former right wing torch barrier David Duke attempting to be "relevant" by associating his name with "Nicki Minaj" as reported by Hello Beautiful.  Listen, Huckabee cares no more for Beynonce's moral presentation than Duke cares about promoting social consciousness. It's about power and control and their current lack of it. Huckabee thinks it is "pimpin" for Jay Z, Bey's husband, to have a say in her career and he or some other white male not. That's really what's the issue here.  Promoting male "authority" is fine when that male isn't a Black male because Huckabee thought little of his wife giving up her managerial career to support his 2008 presidential campaign. Republicans Move to Repeal Affordable Health Care!

2014-12-12T150546Z_1827871562_TM3EACC0QH601_RTRMADP_3_USA-ENERGY

JUST SAY'n: Republicans have a way of lying and deluding the public into thinking that their motives are noble. So they scheme up this notion that to "prevent" employers from cutting workers hours from 40 to 29 to avoid paying Health Care benefits...They will now "help the workers out" with a bill that allows for employers to "only" have to cut one hour down to 39 to avoid paying health care to workers. On the face, this appears to help the workers who need the work hours to "get paid"...but really, WHO does this REALLY help..It helps employers because they can still work their employees to the bone and now don't have to provide them health benefits because as soon as they get close to 40 hours per week, they can shut down their work schedule and STILL have profited from their 39 hours of labor. This is evil and wicked and in the end, employees are going to realize who really did a number on them. In short, Affordable Healthcare is not "destroying" the 40 hour work week, it's employers who do not want to pay for health care that would be given to employers working  40 hour work weeks, and their Republican agents of corporate oppression, who are the culprits.
